Sunghee Lee, CEO of CONTEC: "Space Agency Should Include Startup Support Programs Like India"

South Korea’s first publicly listed space startup, CONTEC, hosted the International Space Summit 2024 (ISS 2024), which was also supported by the Seoul Economic Daily. The event showcased cutting-edge technologies, including ultra-small SAR satellites and space communications.

 

Sunghee Lee, CEO of CONTEC, emphasized the importance of international collaboration and proactive initiatives for NewSpace development. He advocated for the establishment of a space fund to nurture talent and support startups, suggesting that a dedicated startup support program within Korea’s space agency could mirror India’s successful model.

 

“At this year’s ISS 2024, a representative from the U.S. company Umbra announced plans to release fourth-generation synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology by late this year or early next year. The resolution is significantly higher than that of the micro-SAR satellite project currently being developed by our military, which was quite surprising,” Lee said...
