South Korea’s first publicly listed space startup, CONTEC, hosted the International Space Summit 2024 (ISS 2024), which was also supported by the Seoul Economic Daily. The event showcased cutting-edge technologies, including ultra-small SAR satellites and space communications.
Sunghee Lee, CEO of CONTEC, emphasized the importance of international collaboration and proactive initiatives for NewSpace development. He advocated for the establishment of a space fund to nurture talent and support startups, suggesting that a dedicated startup support program within Korea’s space agency could mirror India’s successful model.
“At this year’s ISS 2024, a representative from the U.S. company Umbra announced plans to release fourth-generation synthetic aperture radar (SAR) technology by late this year or early next year.
